Another three people have died after contracting coronavirus, the Scottish Government has confirmed.

It takes the death toll among confirmed Covid-19 patients to 2442, but counting suspected cases, the figure stands at 4027.

The total of confirmed cases of the virus has risen to 15,709 – a jump of 27 in the last 24 hours.

First Minister Nicola Sturgeon revealed 914 patients are in hospital with confirmed or suspected Covid-19 – with 23 of those people in intensive care as of Thursday night.

Speaking at the daily press briefing, Sturgeon said: “Now even as we see these figures decline, thankfully so, it is nevertheless really important that we don’t lose sight of the fact that they are not just statistics.

“They all represent unique loved individuals whose loss is a source of grief to many people. So once again my condolences are with everyone who has lost a loved one to this illness.”

Since March 5, a total of 3873 patients who had tested positive and needed treatment have since been able to leave hospital.
