Coronavirus claims ten more lives as cases near 13,500

Another ten people have died with Covid-19 in Scotland, according to official figures.

It takes the death toll of confirmed coronavirus cases to 1857, but including suspected Covid-19 deaths the total is 3081.

The number of people who have tested positive for the virus in Scotland is up 181 in the last 24 hours to stand at 13,486.

Reporting of deaths is typically lower at weekends.

A total of 1484 people are in hospital overall with confirmed or suspected Covid-19 – a fall of 93 on the day before.

Patients in intensive care either with the virus or believed to have the virus have decreased by 11 to 82.

It’s the lowest number of people in hospital since April 4, and the smallest number in intensive care since March 28.

Exactly 3100 patients who had coronavirus have been able to leave hospital since the outbreak began.

It comes as the Prime Minister prepares to give an address to the nation on Sunday evening in which he is expected to lay out a roadmap to leaving lockdown.

However, all the leaders of the devolved nations – including First Minister Nicola Sturgeon – have rejected proposals to abandon the current “stay at home” message for a new “stay alert” slogan.
