There have been 88 new cases of Covid-19 in Scotland reported in the last day, the biggest jump so far this week.

A total of 36 of the new infections were confirmed in the Greater Glasgow and Clyde health board area.

North-east Glasgow was recently affected by a small community outbreak of cases which included pupils at a local high school.

It is unclear if these latest infections in the region are linked to any known cluster.

There are 11 new cases in Tayside, seven in Lanarkshire and six in Grampian, all regions affected by recent clusters.

Scotland’s 88 new cases amount to 0.7% of all newly-tested individuals.

No new deaths among confirmed coronavirus patients have been reported in the last 24 hours, meaning total fatalities this week remain at two.

A total of 258 people are in hospital around the country with Covid, three more since Friday.

Of those, five patients are being treated in intensive care, an increase of two.

As of Friday, there were 177 cases associated with the outbreak at a 2 Sisters chicken factory in Coupar Angus, Perthshire, and 36 linked to a cluster at Kingspark School in Dundee.

No new infections had been connected to the Aberdeen pubs cluster which led to a three-week local lockdown that began winding down this week.

NHS Greater and Glasgow and Clyde said later on Saturday it is carrying out Covid-19 contact tracing around the Gilmour & Dean Eurostampa business in Glasgow.

It said public health teams have systematically established a list of close contacts and Test and Protect staff are contacting those identified, who are being advised to self-isolate.

The health board said “robust control measures” are in place within the business and that apart from those who are identified as close contacts, all other staff can continue to attend as normal.
