Coronavirus: 8 deaths and 488 cases recorded in 24 hours

There has now been 212,997 positive cases of coronavirus in Scotland since the start of the pandemic.

A further eight coronavirus deaths have been recorded in Scotland in the past 24 hours.

The death toll under this measure – of people who first tested positive for the virus within the previous 28 days – now stands at 7552.

A further 488 positive cases were also reported by the Scottish Government.

A total of 212,997 people have tested positive in Scotland since the start of the pandemic.

There were 367 people in hospital recently confirmed to have Covid-19 on Saturday, 30 fewer than on Friday.

Of these, 31 were in intensive care.

As of Saturday morning, a total of 2,085,525 people in Scotland have received their first dose of vaccine – an increase of 19,065 from the previous day – and 207,028 have received their second dose.

The latest figures come exactly one year since the First Minister addressed the nation saying that Covid-19 was “the biggest challenge of our lifetimes”.

On the same day, March 20, 2020, Boris Johnson told all cafes, pubs, bars, restaurants across the country to close.
