Bottles of Disaronno have been pulled from shelves amid fears they may contain shards of glass.

The Food Standards Agency (FSA) issued a recall notice on Tuesday for 700ml bottles of Disaronno Originale sold in England and Scotland.

In a statement, the FSA said Illva Saronno S.p.A, the brand’s parent company, is recalling the almond-flavoured liqueur due to “the possible presence of small pieces of glass within some bottles of product, which could make it unsafe to drink.”

Seven batches of the liqueur have been identified as potentially affected.

The affected batch codes are: 25374, 25375, 25381, 25382, 25435, 25442, and 25444. Consumers are advised to check the batch code on the back of the bottle.

Recall notices will be displayed at points of sale in shops where the bottles were sold, advising customers on how to return the product.

The recall reportedly stems from an “anomaly on the bottle line” that may have led to contamination.

It follows a similar recall in the Republic of Ireland on Monday, which involved the same product and batch numbers.

The FSA reminded consumers not to drink affected bottles and to return them to the store for a refund or replacement. For further information, Illva Saronno S.p.A can be contacted at contatti@illva.com.
