Boston residents donate to Scottish SPCA amid 'beautiful World Cup friendship'

The residents of Boston have donated to the Scottish SPCA as the “beautiful friendship” with the US city and the country continues.

The Massachusetts capital hosted the Tartan Army as Steve Clarke’s men returned to the global stage this summer.

During that time, a bond was formed, leading Boston to sign a letter of intent to become a sister city to Glasgow.

Before the official document is signed next year, residents from Cumberland, Rhode Island, Lexington and Littleton have all donated to the Scottish SCPA with the message “Thank you from Boston!”

With the donations received from across the pond, the charity has helped a number of animals, including baby red squirrel kits, Fanta and Tango, who required treatment after being found cold, wet and alone in a ditch at just a few weeks old.

There are also some fawns currently being cared for by the wildlife team, after arriving at the centre with injuries and open wounds sustained from dog attacks or from being trapped in fencing or netting.

A spokesperson for the charity said: “The warmth and hospitality shown to Scotland’s supporters in Boston was such a highlight of the tournament and so, it’s incredibly moving to see that kindness extended in such a thoughtful way.

“A massive thank you to our generous donors in Boston. Every donation, no matter the size, helps provide specialist rescue, treatment and rehabilitation for animals that desperately need our care.

“The friendships and memories created during this World Cup will last long after the final whistle. Thanks to the love shown by the people in Boston, that legacy is now helping to give Scotland’s animals the second chance they deserve.”
