Bars in Boston are reporting that they are running out of beer as thousands of cheerful Scottish fans enjoy the city’s hospitality during the World Cup.
More than 20,000 Scotland fans have travelled to Massachusetts, where Scotland’s first two group stage matches are taking place.
As well as enjoying the football, the Tartan Army have been making the most of their time in the US with thousands taking to Fenway Park to watch a Boston Red Sox game.
A number of pubs and bars in the city have reported running low on beer as the thirsty travelling fans cause a surge in demand.
Noelle Somers, chief operating officer at Henessy’s Bar in central Boston, said their trade following the Scotland v Haiti match had tripled that of St Patrick’s Day.
PA MediaShe told the Boston Globe: “We’ve been here for over 30 years and we’ve never seen anything like it.”
The bar ran out of beer on Sunday night before being restocked on Monday morning.
Another delivery is due on Thursday, ahead of the Scotland v Morocco match on Friday evening.
Brewing company Sam Adams has also seen its Boston taproom running dry over the weekend as demand for its Boston lager was four times higher than during a holiday period.
Billy DeCain of the Sam Adams Boston Taproom told NBC Boston: “We’ve never seen anything like it.”
Many bars in the city have been flooded with blue, tartan and the Saltire as the Tartan Army make Boston their home.
The city’s only dedicated Scottish bar is The Haven, which has become a hub for Scotland fans.
Ahead of the World Cup, owner Jason Jason Waddleton ordered in more than 100 kegs of Tennents to ensure fans can enjoy their favourite drink.
