What is on Donald Trump's agenda during his unprecedented second UK state visit

The US President and first lady will be hosted by King Charles and Queen Camilla at Windsor Castle.

US President Donald Trump has arrived in the UK for an unprecedented second state visit.

He’s being accompanied on the trip by First Lady Melania Trump, with the couple preparing to stay at Windsor Castle.

They will receive a ceremonial welcome on Wednesday and later attend a lavish state banquet hosted by King Charles.

There are no public-facing engagements for the president throughout, with thousands expected to take part in major protests against his two-day stay.

What will Trump do during his visit?

The Royal Household has confirmed that Trump and the First Lady will stay at Windsor Castle instead of the traditional Buckingham Palace, which is under maintenance.

The Trumps spent Tuesday night at the US Ambassador’s residence in London’s Regent’s Park and are scheduled to travel by helicopter to Windsor on Wednesday morning.

The President and First Lady will be greeted there by the Prince and Princess of Wales, who will accompany them to meet the King and Queen.

After lunch with other members of the Royal Family, Trump will be invited to view special items from the Royal Collection.

That will be followed by a “Beating Retreat” ceremony and a flypast by UK and US F-35 jets and the Red Arrows.

Later on Wednesday, there will be a State Banquet, where both the King and President Trump will give speeches.

Who else will they meet?

On Thursday, the President will join the King and Queen in travelling to Chequers to meet Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer and his wife.

He will have the chance to look through the Sir Winston Churchill archives before the two leaders have a bilateral meeting, followed by a business reception hosted by Chancellor Rachel Reeves.

Starmer and Trump will later hold a joint press conference at Chequers.

Melania Trump will remain at Windsor Castle where she will tour the Royal Library and see Queen Mary’s Dolls’ House, a famous miniature palace built in the 1920s.

She will also meet Chief Scout Dwayne Fields with Catherine, who is joint president of the Scout Association.

Melania will then join her husband at Chequers before they depart the UK.

What happened during his last state visit to the UK?

Trump was hosted by Queen Elizabeth II on a state visit to the UK in 2019 during his first term in the White House.

He also held talks with then prime minister Theresa May, just days before she left Downing Street.

The President also enjoyed a few days at his Turnberry golf resort in Ayrshire.

During the visit, protesters flew a 20-foot Trump baby blimp over Parliament Square.

Major tech deal announced

As Trump touched down for his second state visit, Britain and the US announced they had struck a tech deal that could bring billions of pounds of investment to the UK

The “tech prosperity deal” will see the UK and US cooperate in areas including artificial intelligence (AI), quantum computing, and nuclear power.

Starmer said the agreement represented “a general step change” in Britain’s relationship with the US that would deliver “growth, security and opportunity up and down the country”.

It comes alongside £31bn of investment in Britain from America’s top technology companies, including 30bn dollars (£22bn) from Microsoft.
