Nicola Sturgeon faces MSPs as teacher strikes and gender row continue

First Minister's Questions on Thursday as schools close across Dundee Argyll and Bute.

First Minister Nicola Sturgeon is facing questions from MSPs at Holyrood.

It comes as teachers continue to strike across Scotland in a dispute over pay. A rolling 16-day programme of strikes is ongoing with union members taking action in two council areas each day from Monday, January 16 until February 6.

On Thursday, staff in Dundee Argyll and Bute walked out.

It comes as Scotland’s deputy first minister called on MSPs to back the Government’s “meaningful and progressive” tax and spending plans.

The draft budget – the first step in the process in Scotland – was published in December against the backdrop of growing economic uncertainty, high inflation and spiralling costs.

The stage one debate on the budget will take place on Thursday afternoon.
