Two Scottish Conservative councillors have defected to Nigel Farage’s Reform UK, the party has announced.
Renfrewshire councillor John Gray and South Lanarkshire councillor Ross Lambie have both joined the party.
It follows claims by Reform UK’s deputy leader Richard Tice that the First Minister is “terrified” of its growing support in Scotland.
Tice said Reform UK has “almost got more members now in Scotland than the Labour Party”.
Polls across the UK suggest Reform is now more popular than Labour, while in Scotland it could have enough support to win its first ever group of MSPs at Holyrood in next May’s election.
A Scottish Conservative spokesperson said: “We are focused on reaching out to voters who are disillusioned with all parties and all politicians.
“We understand that people are sick and tired of the SNP, Labour and the left-wing parties at Holyrood fixating on fringe issues like gender self-identification, rather than the key issues that matter most to their lives, such as reducing NHS waiting lists and raising school standards.
“The Scottish Conservatives will continue holding the failing SNP government to account and represent everyone who has lost trust in politics.”
