Scottish Labour MP Joani Reid has been suspended by the party after her husband was arrested on suspicion of spying for China.
This comes after the party confirmed they were investigating the East Kilbride and Strathaven MP following the arrest of her partner David Taylor.
Taylor is accused of assisting a foreign intelligence service. Scottish Counter Terrorism officers searched a property in East Kilbride in connection with the criminal investigation.
The Labour Whip has been removed from Ms Reid while the Party’s investigation is ongoing. The MP said she had “never seen anything to make me suspect my husband has broken any law”.
Speaking to journalists on Thursday at the Scottish Parliament, Scottish Labour leader Anas Sarwar said the situation is “deeply concerning”.
A Labour Party Spokesperson said: “Joani Reid has agreed to fully cooperate with the Labour Party’s investigation into these matters.”
Her husband David Taylor has also been suspended due to the “serious alllegations.”
A spokesperson from the party said: “These are incredibly serious allegations. We cannot comment further while the police investigation is ongoing.”
