Sunak facing first PMQs of 2024 as pressure over Horizon scandal mounts

The Prime Minister is expected to announce the UK Government's plans for Post Office staff wrongly convicted due to faulty software.

Rishi Sunak is taking questions from MPs at the first PMQs of 2024 after the House of Commons returned from its Christmas recess.

The Prime Minister is expected to address the Horizon scandal after the Post Office minister Kevin Hollinrake said the UK Government was “very, very close” to announcing a solution for the hundreds of workers wrongly convicted.

More than 700 Post Office branch managers were convicted between 1999 and 2015 due to faulty digital accounting software making it appear as though money was missing from their shops.

But only 93 of these convictions have been overturned.
