Nigel Farage declares £270,000 payment for promoting gold bullion

This is Farage's single biggest payment for work outside his role as an MP.

Nigel Farage has declared his largest single payment yet for work outside his role as an MP, after earning £270,000 for promoting gold bullion.

The Reform UK leader declared the payment from Direct Bullion in his latest register of financial interests.

The £270,000 payment was for an estimate of up to four hours work “per month over the course of a three month period”, which equates to Farage earning more than £22,000 an hour.

Farage works as a brand ambassador for the company and has registered several other payments from Direct Bullion in the past.

A spokesman for Farage said: “As has previously been reported and declared, Nigel Farage is a brand ambassador for Direct Bullion.”

According to the Reform leader’s latest register entry, he also earned £18,402 for an estimated six hours of presenting on GB News.

When Sir Keir Starmer was elected as prime minister in 2024, he created a rule where Labour MPs could not have second jobs but this does not apply to other parties.

Farage has continued to take public speaking jobs, appearances on the site Cameo and sponsorship deals with Direct Bullion.

This comes at a time where Farage continues to face questions about a £5m gift he received from Thai-based billionaire Christopher Harborne.

Farage has continually said that he did not need to declare the gift, as it was given before he announced his intention to stand for Parliament in 2024 and that it was not related to politics.

The code of conduct for declarations for MPs state that “new Members must register all their current financial interests, and any registrable benefits received in the 12 months before their election”

The Clacton MP has given a variety of explanations for the gift, including that it was to pay for his personal security, and that it was a “reward” for campaigning for Brexit throughout his political career and insists that it does not need declaring.

Farage has recently said the gift was a “wholly private matter” and told ITV that “no one cares” but was unclear as to whether he has actually spent it yet.

Parliament’s standards commissioner is currently investigating whether the gift should have been registered.
