Scottish Government Covid advisor Devi Sridhar has appeared on the cover of Pakistan’s edition of Grazia.
The 38-year-old is described as “breaking stereotypes” by the magazine, to which she gave an interview.
Professor Sridhar was one of Nicola Sturgeon’s highest-profile public health advisors during the pandemic, and works at Edinburgh University.
She tweeted an image of the front cover, adding: “Thank you Grazia Pakistan for this interview on education, science, being a woman in academia and sport. And for highlighting #pinktober – all about breast cancer awareness.”
Prof Sridhar, who was brought up in Florida by Indian parents, added: “Girls see these photos and may not realise the makeup/hair/production that goes into it. It’s art by a very talented team.
“It’s fun to get glam sometimes. Women should look and wear what they want anywhere in the [world]. {But it’s not how I look in real life}.”
The academic recently wrote a column in the Guardian newspaper accusing Rishi Sunak of handling Covid badly due to his “bubble of extreme privilege”.
