Andy Burnham is the UK’s Prime Minister after being invited to form a government by the King at Buckingham Palace.
The announcement comes just days after Labour’s newest MP won the one-horse race to be party leader.
Keir Starmer formally resigned as Prime Minister after a meeting with the King at Buckingham Palace on Monday morning.
In his farewell speech, Starmer said “my work is done”, and he was leaving the country “stronger and fairer” than when he took office just two years ago.
He said Burnham has his “full support”.
Burnham comes into power, claiming to have a decade-long plan to change the UK and hinting at cuts to personal taxes.
The new Prime Minister is expected to appoint his cabinet members throughout the day.
