Labour MP Christina Rees suspended as party investigates bullying allegations UK Parliament

A Labour MP has been suspended from the party following allegations of bullying.

Christina Rees, who represents the constituency of Neath in Wales, will sit as an independent MP while the complaint is investigated.

The 68-year-old was elected to Parliament in 2015 and served as shadow secretary of state for Wales under Jeremy Corbyn.

According to a report in the Guardian, complaints were made by her constituency office staff to Labour headquarters.

In a statement to the newspaper, Rees said: “There has been a complaint made against me to the Labour Party which is under investigation and I am therefore under an administrative suspension until the process is concluded.

“I’m not aware of the details of the complaint but I am fully co-operating with the investigation.”

A spokeswoman for the Labour Party said: “We do not comment on individual complaints.”
