Keir Starmer faces PMQs after winter fuel payment cut vote

The Prime Minister survived a Tory attempt to reverse his decision to end the benefit to all but the poorest pensioners.

Keir Starmer is expected to face a grilling from MPs over his decision to end winter fuel payment for most pensioners.

The Prime Minister survived a Labour rebellion on Tuesday night after a Conservative motion to reverse the decision failed.

Some 53 Labour MPs – including seven ministers – abstained on the vote but only one Labour MP – Jon Trickett – voted against.

The Scottish Government has also ended the universal policy, saying it will lose up to £160m in funding due to the UK Government’s decision.

Only those already on benefits will continue to receive the support with nearly a million pensioners in Scotland missing out.
