John Swinney is set to face First Minister’s Questions ahead of chairing a national youth violence summit on Thursday afternoon.
The cross-party meeting is an attempt to clamp down on knife crime among young people following the deaths of two teenagers in Scotland this year in alleged separate stabbings.
It also comes as teachers report rising levels of classroom violence and misogynistic behaviour among pupils.
Opposition party leader have previously challenged the First Minister about his Government’s stance on youth justice and knife crime.
Thursday’s FMQs also comes after Swinney announced a “modest” Cabinet reshuffle on Wednesday.
He appointed Màiri McAllan, who is returning from maternity leave, as the cabinet secretary for housing to tackle the national housing crisis.
Swinney also appointed a new minister for drugs and alcohol policy following the death of Christina McKelvie in March.
FMQs follows the UK Government spending review, which was announced in the Commons on Wednesday.
The chancellor promised a £52bn settlement for Scotland as well as an unspecified level of support for the Acorn project, a major carbon capture and storage scheme in Aberdeenshire.
She also announced significant increases in funding for the NHS, defence and education.
Swinney will be asked in the chamber what impact the chancellor’s spending review will have on Scotland.
FMQs will be livestreamed from the Scottish Parliament chamber at noon on Thursday.
