Yousaf faces FMQs after health secretary quits over iPad bill scandal

Michael Matheson announced his resignation on Thursday morning.

Humza Yousaf is facing FMQs after his health secretary quit over a £11,000 data bill racked up on his official iPad during a family holiday.

First Minister’s Questions comes ahead of a ministerial statement on minimum unit pricing for alcohol due to be given by Michael Matheson.

But Matheson announced his resignation on Thursday morning as he awaited a report into his large data roaming charges that he originally tried to bill the taxpayer for.

He was standing in for drugs and alcohol minister Elena Whitham who resigned this week citing personal health issues.

Reports suggest the Scottish Government may increase MUP from 50p to 65p, a rise of 30%.

A minimum charge of 50p on each unit of alcohol has been in force since 2018, following a protracted legal battle with the drinks industry.

It aims to prevent harmful levels of drinking by raising the price of alcohol.
