Protesters forced Holyrood authorities to suspend FMQs nine times on Thursday as MSPs held a heated debate on NHS wait times.

Protesters interrupted the weekly questions session, shouting “food is a human right, hunger is a political choice” while urging the Scottish Government to fund community food hubs.

Humza Yousaf said demonstrators were protesting at “the wrong parliament” and suggested Westminster was to blame for food poverty.

It’s the first time in months that Holyrood has been subject to protests.

The interruptions came during a heated FMQs which was stopped by the presiding officer on several occasions due to the behaviour of some MSPs.

Scottish Tory leader Douglas Ross told Humza Yousaf that January this year was the worst month ever for long waits at A&E departments in Scotland.

He said nearly 9,000 patients were forced to wait more than half a day for emergency treatment.

He said one woman spent seven hours in a waiting room at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow and was forced to lie on the floor to cope with her pain.

The First Minister said he apologised to everyone who was forced to wait longer than they should.

He said the Scottish Government is putting a record-setting £19.5bn into the NHS.
