Former Conservative minister Nadine Dorries has defected to Reform UK.

Dorries served as secretary of State for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport and a health minister under Boris Johnson.

She wrote in the Daily Mail: “The time for action is now and I believe that the only politician who has the answers, the knowledge and the will to deliver is Nigel Farage.”

Dorries, announcing her decision, also said that “it’s time for change” and to “time make Britain great again”, declaring the Tory Party “dead”.

She wrote: “My decision to leave the party I’ve served for more than 30 years is possibly the most difficult I’ve ever had to make, and it has taken me 12 agonising months to reach.”

It comes just over a week after the first MSP defected to Nigel Farage’s party.

Graham Simpson, who represents Central Scotland, revealed he had ditched the Scottish Conservative part at Holyrood during a speech on Wednesday morning.

“Leaving the party that I first joined when I was 15 is an enormous wrench and I’ve done a lot of soul searching in the last few weeks,” he said.

Dorries and Simpson are the latest in a string of defections from the Conservatives to Reform including former Welsh secretary David Jones and ex-Tory chairman Sir Jake Berry.
