Former Scottish Labour councillor who quit following race row joins ReformGlasgow City Council

A former Glasgow Labour councillor, who quit the party amid a race row, has joined the Reform party.

Audrey Dempsey was suspended by the party after being accused of making racist remarks.

She claimed “racist attacks on white children and teachers” had been on the rise without providing any statistical evidence.

In April 2024, Cllr Dempsey announced she had left the party after an “attack” on her “character and reputation”.

Reform UK Scotland has confirmed that the Springburn and Robroyston representative has joined the party.

In a statement, they described Dempsey as a “strong local champion.”

The news comes a day after Graham Simpson, who represents Central Scotland, became the first MSP to defect from the Tories to join Farage’s party.
