Scotland has recorded 141 new cases of coronavirus in the past 24 hours.

It marks the seventh day in a row new infections have been more than 100, taking total Covid-19 cases in Scotland since the start of the pandemic to 21,189.

No further deaths have been reported.

The official death toll in Scotland stands at 2496, however weekly figures on suspected Covid-19 deaths suggest the most up-to-date total is now 4228.

There are 251 people in hospital with confirmed or suspected coronavirus, a decrease of seven since Friday. Of these patients, two are in intensive care.

The 141 new cases amount to 1.5% of all newly-tested individuals.

Of Saturday’s new cases, 68 are in the Greater Glasgow and Clyde region – where restrictions on indoor gatherings have been put in place across three council areas due to a spike in cases.

NHS Lanarkshire has reported 20 new cases and has already warned the region could face similar measures.

Elsewhere, both NHS Forth Valley and NHS Lothian have recorded 14 new cases, NHS Tayside eight, NHS Ayrshire and Arran seven, NHS Highland six, NHS Grampian two, and both NHS Borders and NHS Dumfries and Galloway have each reported one.
