Boris Johnson 'could be gone by Christmas' if he becomes prime minister

Johnson is being investigated by MPs over partygate.

Boris Johnson could be gone by Christmas if he returns as Prime Minister due to damning evidence about partygate, it has been claimed.

The former Conservative Party leader is currently being investigated by Westminster’s Privileges Committee over whether he misled MPs over the scandal.

Sources familiar with the investigation have spoken to ITV News about the probe.

They say that a large amount of damaging evidence has already been handed over to the inquiry.

Johnson announced his resignation as prime minister in July after revelations that he broke his own Covid rules during the pandemic.

He was forced to step down after a wave of Cabinet ministers quit over his handling of allegations made against Chris Pincher.

A number of allies of Johnson have called for him to make a dramatic return in the wake of Liz Truss’ exit as prime minister.

So far, only Penny Mordaunt has confirmed that she will be running in the race to enter No 10.

Rishi Sunak has been widely regarded as being among the favourites to become the next prime minister.
