A woman has been left in serious condition following an assault in Helensburgh.

Officers were alerted to the attack that happened around 12.45am on Sunday.

The 25-year-old woman was assaulted by a man on East Princes Street, near to its junction with Sinclair Street.

The woman was taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital where hospital staff describe her condition as “serious”.

Police are now working to trace the man involved urging anyone with information to come forward.

The force described the man as white, aged in his late 30s, around 6ft tall and of a heavy build with a bald or shaved head.

The man was wearing a short-sleeved, dark-coloured t-shirt and dark-coloured trainers with a white trim.

Police added that he was in the company of another man and a woman.

Detective constable Nic Neeson said: “Our investigation is continuing into the circumstances surrounding this incident and to trace the man responsible.

“This is a busy area and I would appeal to anyone who witnessed this serious assault or who has any information regarding this incident to come forward as soon as possible.

“I would also ask any drivers with dash-cam or anyone with personal footage to please review it and get in touch if it holds anything that may be relevant to this ongoing investigation.”

“Information should be passed to officers through 101 quoting reference number 1009 of May 27.

“Alternatively Crimestoppers can be contacted on 0800 555 111, where anonymity can be maintained.”
