A woman has died nearly three weeks after a two-car crash in Aberdeenshire which left three people injured.

Emergency services were called to A952 near Toll of Birness around 1.05pm on New Year’s Day following a collision involving a blue Volkswagen T-roc and a white Suzuki Ignis.

Three women, aged 81, 51 and 20, were taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary with serious injuries.

The 81-year-old woman, who has now been named as Alma Duguid from the Fraserburgh area, died in hospital on Wednesday, January 21.

The other two women were released following treatment.

Police are reappealing for information as enquiries continue.

Sergeant Sarah Ritchie from the North East Road Policing Unit said: “Our thoughts are with the family and friends of Alma, who have requested privacy at this time.

“Our enquiries remain ongoing and I would appeal to anyone who witnessed the crash to please contact us.

“We’d also ask anyone who may have dash-cam footage of relevance to come forward as this may be significant in assisting with our enquiries.”
