A man who posed as a medical student at an Aberdeen hospital to access restricted wards and files has failed to appear for sentencing.

Stephen Simpson wore medical scrubs and NHS-branded clothing and used a stethoscope and pager at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary between December 9, 2023, and January 26, 2024.

The 22-year-old from Aberdeen convinced employees to grant him access to restricted areas, wards, medical files and staff-only areas. He then stole NHS-branded clothing, a pager, and a bottle of perfume.

Simpson admitted fraud at Aberdeen Sheriff Court last month.

He originally faced a total of six charges but pleaded guilty to two amended charges of pretending to employees that he was a medical student authorised to be in ARI and the theft of items at the hospital.

He was due to appear for sentencing at Aberdeen Sheriff Court on Thursday, but he failed to appear, and a warrant was issued for his arrest by Sheriff William Summers.

Simpson also failed to appear for sentencing last week due to having a migraine.
