Police have issued a warning following a spate of incidents involving intoxicated youths that were found unconscious and had vomited or urinated on themselves.

Last weekend, ambulances were called to Perth’s North Inch park three times to deal with the underage drinkers.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Not only were these incidents unpleasant and completely avoidable, they tied up the time of police officers who could have been needed to deal with incidents elsewhere.”

The force said on Saturday alone, ten youths were taken to Perth police station due to their intoxication levels, for committing anti-social behaviour offences, or for pestering adults to purchase alcohol on their behalf.

In the run up to this weekend, officers have been visiting off-licences to “inform them of their responsibilities”.

The spokesperson added: “We would also like to remind members of the public, if you’re approached by someone under the age of 18 who asks you to purchase alcohol for them, do not agree to do so as you will be committing an offence.”

Throughout this weekend, officers will be out patrolling at beauty spots and public parks to ensure the safety of the public as well as to provide advice around the coronavirus regulations.

The spokesperson said: “We continue to work closely with partners and Perth and Kinross Council to make sure young people are as safe as possible, but we still need support from parents and carers.

“Please be mindful about where your children are and who they are with, and educate them in relation to alcohol and risks involved.

“Make sure you can contact them if needed.”
