A man has died and a driver has been taken to hospital after a collision involving a van and a lorry in Aberdeenshire.

Emergency services were dispatched to the scene on the A947 Aberdeen to Banff Road at Inverythan near Fyvie at around 1.25pm on Thursday afternoon, following reports of a crash involving a white Vauxhall Combo van and a blue Volvo Skip Loader lorry.

The 36-year-old van driver died at the scene, while the 33-year-old driver of the Volvo lorry was taken to hospital.

The road was closed for several hours for police could carry out enquiries. The road has since reopened.

Sergeant Chris Bain said: “Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the man who died, and we continue to offer support to them.

“Our enquiries remain ongoing and I’d appeal to anyone with dash-cam who was in the area around the time of the incident to check their footage for any images that could assist our enquiries.”

Anyone with information is asked to call Police Scotland via 101, quoting incident number 1543 of Thursday, September 10.
