Two firebomb attacks on same flat within four hours

Police are investigating the incidents that took place in the early hours of Monday.

A flat was targeted in two firebomb attacks within the space of four hours.

Police are investigating the incidents on Sidney Street, Arbroath, in the early hours of Monday.

The first attack took place at 1am when an item filled with accelerant was thrown at a window of the property, however it failed to smash.

Around four hours later, a second attempt was made and this time it penetrated the glass and the living room caught fire.

The 34-year-old householder managed to extinguish the flames.

Police are now appealing for information as they look to identify two men seen in the area.

Detective constable Laura Jenkins from Tayside CID said: “Thankfully no one was injured in this attack, however, if the fire had taken hold, this could have been a lot worse and could easily have spread to other flats in the block.

“Whilst we believe this to be targeted, the motive has yet to be established.

“From our enquiries so far, two men were seen in the area at the time of the incident. One is described as approximately 5ft 10, wearing a light grey hooded top, light coloured shorts and dark coloured trainers. The second man was 6ft, wearing a dark hooded top, light coloured jogging bottoms which may have rolled up, and dark shoes.

“If you saw or heard anything that night, or have any information that may assist officers with their investigation, please contact Bell Street Police Station, Dundee, via 101 quoting reference number 0390 of 5 October, 2020.”
