Police are urging anyone who has been offered a live lobster for sale to get in touch after two dozen of the crustaceans were stolen from a pontoon in Angus.

The theft from storage at Arbroath Outer Harbour was discovered on Wednesday morning.

Police said the 24 live lobsters “couldn’t have escaped themselves and had help”.

They urged anyone who has been offered lobsters for sale or noticed any unusual activity to get in touch.

In a post on social media site X, police in Tayside said: “Twenty four live lobsters were stolen from storage at a pontoon at Arbroath Outer Harbour between 5pm on Tuesday November 5 and 6am on Wednesday November 6.

“Couldn’t have escaped themselves and had help. If you saw unusual activity or have been offered them for sale call 101, ref incident 0611 of November 6.”
