Two charged with 'hate crime' at asylum seeker accommodation protest 

Two men have been charged in connection with a hate crime following a protest outside accommodation housing asylum seekers in Aberdeen.

Officers say the two men, aged 26 and 40, have been charged after a demonstration on Farmers Hall Lane on Thursday, September 11.

Both were released on an undertaking and will appear in court at a later date.

Asylum seekers in the city have been moved from hotels into empty student accommodation following more protests.

The decision was criticised by the city council, which urged the Home Office to reconsider the move.

The Home Office said it was “committed to closing all asylum hotels”.
