Three charged for fly-tipping in Fife while posing as waste management service

Three people have been charged after posing as a waste management company and fly-tipping across Fife.

Large deposits of garden, household and building waste were discovered at addresses in Glenrothes, Inverkeithing, and Kirkcaldy last month.

Investigations by community officers traced the waste back to individuals who had contacted customers via social media, posing as a certified waste management company.

The waste was then dumped at high schools, behind business units and in public spaces.

PC West from Glenrothes Community Team said: “These deposits cause a hazard to the public and cost Fife Council and others thousands of pounds to clear up. “

“Members of the public should also be aware you have a duty of care to ensure your waste is disposed of safely and legally and you can face a £500 on the spot fine.”

“We will continue to work with our partners including Fife Council and Scottish Environmental Protection Agency who can fine repeat offenders up to £40,000 for illegal waste deposits.”
