Four teenagers have been charged after officers were assaulted and flares were thrown at players during a football match in Fife.

During the Dunfermline v Raith Rovers game on February 1, pyrotechnics were set off and objects thrown at players on the pitch.

Police confirmed that a 13-year-old was arrested and charged in connection with police assault and possession of pyrotechnics at East End Park.

A 16-year-old male and two 13-year-old boys were also arrested and charged in connection with pyrotechnics offences.

Reports have been submitted to the relevant authorities.

Police Scotland is urging anyone with information regarding the match day disorder to come forward.

Chief inspector Christopher Dow said: “We’re carrying out extensive CCTV work in relation to these offences and continue to liaise with the club to identify those involved.

“Football matches should be a safe environment for players and spectators and this type of reckless conduct will not be tolerated.

“I’d ask anyone who was at the game, or has any information, to get in touch. If you have pictures or mobile phone footage from inside the stadium, please review it and bring anything of significance to our attention.

“I would also like to thank the majority of fans for their conduct at matches and assure them we work closely with a range of partners to maintain public safety and minimise disruption.”
