A teenager who raped a 13-year-old and sexually assaulted a 12-year-old on the same day has been jailed for five years.
The 17-year-old, who cannot be named for legal reasons, targeted his victims in woodland in Dundee.
The High Court in Edinburgh heard the offender carried out the attacks in the Ardler area of the city on February 10, 2023, when he was 15 years old.
The accused was found guilty earlier this year of rape and sexual assault charges.
He had denied any wrongdoing and pled not guilty.
On Tuesday, the youth, who has no previous convictions, appeared for sentencing.
His lawyer Jim Stephenson told the court that his client had suffered adverse childhood experiences.
Mr Stephenson added: “He has witnessed domestic abuse. He is a vulnerable person. He has shown a lack of maturity.”
Passing sentence, Judge Michael O’Grady told the youth that he would be supervised by the authorities for three years following his release from custody.
Passing sentence, judge O’Grady added: “These assaults were cowardly, humiliating and cruel.
“These were wicked acts.
“The victims here are the girls – no one should lose sight of that.”
The teen was also placed on the Sex Offenders Register for life.
