Teen who attacked pupil with knife 'fantasised about hurting school bullies'

The 12-year-old victim, who was not a member of the group that bullied the teen, was slashed in the face with the weapon

A 15-year-old girl who attacked a pupil with a knife after fantasising about hurting other school bullies at an Aberdeen school has been referred to the children’s hearing system.

The now 15-year-old pled guilty earlier this year to repeatedly striking the child on the head with a knife to her severe injury, permanent disfigurement and danger of her life.

The teenager also admitted bringing a knife to Hazlehead Academy “without reasonable excuse or lawful authority”.

The court heard the 12-year-old victim had sat down beside the teenager in the school canteen and referred to a name a group of bullies had repeatedly called her, although the victim was not a member of this group of girls.

The teenager then struck the younger girl on the head with a knife, with force to the cheek and then twice more to the face.

She was taken to Aberdeen Children’s Hospital, where she required stitches and plastic surgery and went on to have scar laser treatment.

In a statement, the victim’s father said: “Schools should be safe environments and no parent, child or teacher should ever expect to have to deal with the prospect of attacks with weapons.”

The attacker, who was 14 at the time of the offence, appeared in Aberdeen Sheriff Court on Thursday for sentencing.

The court heard the accused girl had fantasised about killing, hurting and mutilating another group of girls who’d been bullying her for months.

Her defence said that she was pushed into acting the way that she did and that this was an isolated incident.

Sheriff Craig Findlater said he was satisfied it was appropriate to remit the case to the children’s hearing system, and added this was obviously a highly upsetting case.
