A teenage footballer who lost both of his legs in a car crash in Aberdeenshire was invited to watch local side Cove Rangers train.
Adam Golebiewski was one of four teenagers injured in a crash on Union Road in Macduff on the morning of September 8.
The 17-year-old had to have both of his legs amputated below the knee due to the severity of his injuries and is facing months of rehabilitation.
Speaking to STV News last month, Adam’s dad – also named Adam – said he had been out celebrating after his team, Deveronside JFC, won a match.
Adam spent his 18th birthday undergoing rehabilitation in hospital and is now waiting to have prosthetics fitted.
The teen said he is refusing to let the accident get him down and is focusing on the future.
He said: “I need to have a positive mindset, and what I’m most thinking about now is working hard on my rehab, getting my prosthetics, and being allowed to leave the hospital and go back home again.
“There’s no point in worrying about what has happened, I’m still me, that’s not changed, and I just want to concentrate on getting stronger, and carrying on with my life.”
On Thursday, the Scottish League One side invited Adam to watch the club train and meet the players and management squad.
The club’s goalkeeping coach, Derek Soutar, also visited the teenager last week, along with keepers Nick Suman, Balint Demus, and Jack Robertson, presenting him with a signed shirt.
Soutar said: “I was heartbroken when I heard what had happened, I’ve got kids myself, so it really hit home, but meeting Adam has been so inspirational.
“He’s a funny boy, loves the banter, and his sense of humour and positivity will go a long way towards helping him through this.
“It was great having him at the stadium, he refereed the goalies’ head-tennis game and helped with some of the drills, and it was so good to see him here.
“With the strength of character he has, I’m sure he has plenty to look forward to.”
A club statement added: “Everyone at Balmoral Stadium would like to wish Adam and his family all the very best for the future and we look forward to welcoming them back to the ground any time.”
Following the crash, Adam’s team shared a statement on social media offering support for the team.
“After Saturday’s win at Nairn and his own fantastic performance, our young goalkeeper Adam Golebiewski was in a car accident and suffered very serious injuries,” they wrote.
“Everyone at the Club wishes Adam well with his recovery and rehabilitation and assures him he has the full support of the Club going forward.
“Take care and all the best Adam.”
