Tayside Mountain Rescue Team were thrown from a training day to rescue two walkers who injured their ankles in separate incidents.

The team had gathered at Grandtully for training on the River Tay on Sunday when the first emergency call was received. A walker had slipped and injured their ankle at Balthayock Wood near Glen Carse.

With support from Scotland’s Charity Air Ambulance, the casualty was assisted swiftly, allowing team members to return to their training exercise.

Later that afternoon, a second call-out came in involving a walker high on Meall nan Tarmachan who had slipped and suffered a broken ankle.

Tayside MRT responded alongside Coastguard Rescue 199 from Prestwick and Killin Mountain Rescue Team, with both organisations providing vital assistance during the rescue operation.

The team has wished both casualties a full and speedy recovery.

A spokesperson said: “A busy day for the team.

“What began as our Spring water training at Grandtully had a couple of unexpected twists when the team were called out twice.

“Not long after training got underway, the first call out (17/26) came in for a walker who had slipped and injured their ankle at Balthayock Wood near Glen Carse.

“Thanks to the support of Scotland’s Charity Air Ambulance – SCAA Helimed 76 the incident was quickly resolved and the team were able to return to training on the Tay.

“A few hours later, a 2nd call out (18/26) came in. This time the team responded to a walker high on Meall nan Tarmachan who had slipped and suffered a broken ankle.

“A huge thank you to Coastguard Rescue 199 from Prestwick and Killin Mountain Rescue Team for their invaluable support during the rescue.

“We wish both casualties a full and speedy recovery.

“Tayside MRT is made up of skilled volunteers who are on call 24 hours a day, 365 days per year. We respond in all weather, in all terrain and at all hours.”
