Swimmers from around the world have been taking the plunge at the GB Ice Swimming Championships in Stonehaven this weekend.
It may be the middle of winter, but the low temperatures haven’t stopped swimmers from across the world from embracing the chill and taking the plunge to compete.
Ice swimming is an extreme sport which is growing in popularity and involves swimming in freezing waters.
However wetsuits aren’t allowed.
STV NewsCompetitors told STV News the sport is amazing and nerve-wracking – but leaves some “absolutely invigorated” after embracing the cool temperatures.
Its the first time the open air pool in Stonehaven has held an international event like this.
STV NewsLeon Fryer from the International Ice Swimming Assosication said: “Around 150 swimmers signed up to compete from 1km down to 50 metres.
“Stonehaven itself has been amazing, the people, the businesses.”
Organisers say the event has been such a success, that they hope to be back
