Five people, including a girl who died and a man now in police custody, were taken to hospital after an incident at an industrial estate in Arbroath.
Emergency services were called to the Elliot Industrial Estate at around midnight on Monday after a nine-year-old girl was found injured.
The child, who was from West Yorkshire and had family camping in the area, was discovered at Elliot Industrial Estate shortly after midnight on Monday.
She was taken to Ninewells Hospital in Dundee, where she was pronounced dead. Her death is being treated as suspicious.
Four ambulances and a paramedic response unit were sent to the scene, and four patients, including the girl, were taken to hospital.
The other three patients, taken to hospital as a precaution, are related to the nine-year-old; their ages are not known. They have been discharged.
A man has been arrested in connection with the death of the nine-year-old.
Police have confirmed that the child and the 35-year-old, who is a white British man, were known to each other.

Officers are not looking for anyone else in connection with the girl’s death, but extensive investigations remain ongoing.
A Scottish Ambulance spokesperson said: “We received a call at 11.53pm on Sunday, August 2, to attend an incident at Elliot Industrial Estate, Arbroath.
“We dispatched four ambulance response vehicles to the scene, and we transported four patients to Ninewells Hospital.”
The cordon and blue forensic tent has been removed from the area after officers collected evidence.
A report has been submitted to the Procurator Fiscal regarding the death of the girl. Officers have not charged anyone in connection.
A spokesperson said: “The Procurator Fiscal has received a report in connection with the death of a child in Dundee on August 3, 2026.
“The investigation into the death is ongoing, and the family will continue to be kept updated in relation to any significant developments.”
