A social care worker has been struck off after stealing more than £6,500 from a vulnerable person in their care in Aberdeenshire.

Sarah Littlejohn was convicted at Aberdeen Sherriff Court of stealing £6,6889.89 over nine months between March and December 2020.

In a report by the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC), it stated that Littlejohn’s actions “had the potential to seriously disadvantage a vulnerable individual” and lead to a “life-changing” impact.

She provided no “meaningful insight” into her conduct and “failed” to engage with the SSSC investigation process.

Littlejohn had worked in care for two years before the theft occurred, and no concerns were raised over her conduct.

However, the SSSC found that a striking-off order was the most appropriate sanction to implement.

A warning on her registration was found to be inappropriate as it would “not protect vulnerable individuals from any repeat of the behaviour”.

The council also concluded that striking off was “necessary” to “maintain the continuing trust and confidence” in the social services profession.

Littlejohn was struck off on January 26, 2025.
