Stolen ambulance taken on 40-mile joyride in police chase

The ambulance was driven nearly 40 miles after being taken outside a house in Aberdeenshire.

An ambulance was stolen while parked outside a house in Aberdeenshire and taken on a 40-mile joyride.

Police chased the vehicle after it was taken from Kemnay, near Inverurie, around 6.20am on Wednesday.

Officers managed to bring the ambulance to a halt near Dufftown – 38 miles away. A 39-year-old man was arrested and an investigation is ongoing.

Another ambulance had to be called to take the patient to hospital.

Police Scotland said in a statement: “Around 6.20am this morning, Wednesday, 18 November, an ambulance was stolen from outside an address in Kemnay, near Inverurie.

“Following a pursuit by officers, the vehicle was stopped near Dufftown.

“A 39-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident and enquiries are continuing.

“The ambulance had been at the address providing assistance.”
