Specialist units continue search for woman swept into river

The search for Hazel Nairn is continuing eight days after the 71-year-old is thought to have been caught in the River Don.

Specialist units are continuing the search for a woman who was swept into the River Don amid severe weather.

Hazel Nairn, 71, was last seen in the water near Monymusk at around 3.05pm on Friday, November 18.

Officers confirmed the body of her dog was recovered near the River Don on Wednesday, as the search for Ms Nairn enters its eighth day.

Searches have been carried out between Kintore and Dyce by specially trained officers by specialist officers from Operational Support Division, the Dive and Marine Unit and Air Support Unit.

Searches are continuing.

Inspector Rhona Di Meola said: “Since Hazel was last seen extensive police searches have been carried out, including the use of the police helicopter and specialist resources.

“Every effort is being made to find her as we know how distressing this is for her family and friends.”
