Seagull rescued after getting wing stuck in illegal glue trap in Aberdeen

A seagull has been rescued by the SSPCA after getting caught in an illegal glue trap in Aberdeen.

The animal welfare charity was called out after the bird was discovered with the trap, typically used to catch rodents and animals classed as vermin, stuck underneath its wing.

The traps were banned under the Wildlife Management and Muirburn (Scotland) Bill which came into force earlier this year.

Someone convicted under the act could face up to five years in prison and a maximum fine of £40,000.

An SSPCA animal rescue officer, said: “I attended a call out for a seagull who had become trapped in a glue rat trap that was stuck to the underneath of his wing.

“I took the gull to one of our centres and he was given several warm soapy washes in attempts to remove the trap which was successful.

“The poor gull was so stressed after his ordeal, he was transferred to our wildlife centre for further treatment to remove the glue from his feathers after some well-earned rest.
