Scottish businesses owned by the Trump Organization are “rejoicing” after Donald Trump was re-elected as the President of the United States.
The Republican nominee defeated Democratic candidate Kamala Harris to become the 47th President of the US on Wednesday – his second administration in the Oval Office.
The businessman, who founded The Trump Organization, owns the Menie Estate golf course in Balmedie near Aberdeen and the Trump Turnberry Hotel and Resort in Girvan.
The 78-year-old stepped down from The Trump Organization as President prior to taking office in 2017, with the conglomerate now run by sons Eric and Donald Jr. However he is still the owner of the group.
Trump has ties to Scotland as his mother Mary MacLeod was born and raised in Tong on the Isle of Lewis.
He recently spoke out in favour of Scotland remaining as part of the UK.
Sarah Malone, executive vice president at Trump International Scotland said: “We’ve had the privilege of working with the Trump family for a great many years, and we know that everything that they do, they do with 100% heart and soul.
“And when Trump makes a pledge to deliver, he delivers on that promise. And we are so excited for the family.
“This is a momentous moment in history, and we are just thrilled.
“He is an incredible human being. He is set apart as a leader. And given the backdrop and the world today, it requires a leader of strength and conviction.
“Trump possesses all those qualities. He has demonstrated that he is serious and he is committed to the United States of America unlike any other. This is a tremendously significant victory.
“It is testament to him that we are here. His family has invested hundreds of millions of pounds into the Scottish economy, and a great many people are rejoicing here today because of the jobs and the wealth and prosperity that we have seen.
“But that strength, that resolve and that common sense approach that is a hallmark of Donald. We are celebrating with him today.”
Scotland First Minister John Swinney, who had previously endorsed Trump’s opponent Harris, sent his congratulations to the two-time President.
Writing to Trump, Swinney said: “I am writing to convey my congratulations, and those of the people of Scotland, on your election as the 47th President of the United States of America.
“The United States of America is Scotland’s most important market and source of inward investment, but it is much more than that.
“Many people of Scottish descent, including yourself, have worked hard to shape the United States into a global power.
“We greatly appreciate the strong and lasting social, cultural and economic ties we have with the United States, and are sure that these will continue to flourish during your presidency.
“I wish you every success in your new role.”
