Scottish band Boards of Canada claim White House used song without permissioniStock

A Scottish band says the official White House X account used their music without permission.

Electronic act Boards of Canada, a duo formed by brothers Mike Sandison and Marcus Eoin, are originally from Cullen in Moray.

Their song Deep Time was used by the Trump administration’s official account in a clip showing an American flag flying, helicopters arriving on the White House lawn and a border patrol boat.

The band’s label, Warp Records, said they “do not condone the unauthorised use of their music for political messaging”.

A number of artists, including Sabrina Carpenter, Bruce Springsteen and Olivia Rodrigo, have publicly condemned the use of their music in President Donald Trump’s campaigns and social media posts.

The White House has been contacted for comment.
