A warning has been issued to Angus residents following the emergence of a cold-calling scam which is targeting elderly and vulnerable people.
The Angus Financial Support Abuse Team (FAST said the scam involves a company cold-calling people in the area, claiming that they work with the health service in order to gain access to people’s homes.
This company have provided their employees with NHS-style uniforms and ID which gives them the appearance of NHS employees.
Once an appointment has been arranged, the scammers attempt to sell people hospital beds and mattresses for thousands of pounds.
Karen Turner, chair of the Angus Financial Abuse Support Team said, “It’s not the first time we have encountered people being targeted and asked to pay sky high prices for hospital beds or mattresses and we will do whatever we can to prevent anyone suffering any financial harm.”
Angus FAST is made up of staff from Angus Council’s Trading Standards and Welfare Rights Services, The Angus Health and Social Care Partnership Adult Protection Unit, Police Scotland, and NHS Tayside.
