Residents in Aberdeenshire have been urged to keep their windows closed as firefighters tackle a blaze.

Emergency services were called to a fire in the open in Alford on Wednesday.

Six fire engines have been sent to the Suie Road area as of 3pm.

Locals have been urged to keep their windows and doors closed while firefighters work to extinguish the fire.

The public has also been urged to avoid the area.

A spokesperson for Scottish Fire and Rescue Service: “We are currently in attendance at a fire in the open near Alford, Aberdeenshire.

“Operations Control has mobilised six appliances to the Suie Road area, where firefighters remain working to extinguish the fire.

“People living within the local area are asked to keep windows and doors closed for the time being.

“Please also avoid the area as far as possible.”
