Angus is set to introduce a raft of double yellow lines across the county in a bid to tackle “inappropriate” parking.
Councillors approved the proposals during a communities committee meeting on Tuesday, January 27.
Under the plans, “no waiting” zones will be introduced at over 60 locations across towns and villages in Angus.
An accompanying report outlined that Police Scotland, elected members and residents have raised a number of concerns regarding “inappropriate kerbside parking.”
This included concerns relating to restricted visibility at junctions, general congestion, impacts on access, and lack of loading facilities for local businesses.
Objections
However, the proposals racked up 27 initial objections to the new restrictions.
Of the 27 objections, 10 were subsequently withdrawn, leaving 17 unresolved objections
The majority of these unresolved objections related to a corner of Dundee Street and Gardyne Street in Letham outside the village’s Keystore.
Speaking during the meeting, resident Phyllis Jolly said: “We are very alarmed that removing four parking spaces (outside the store) to create a wider bend will lead to increased speed, and it is speed that causes accidents, not just poor visibility.”
Councillor Ronnie Proctor subsequently lodged a motion to reduce the planned 20-metre restriction to 10 metres on Gardyne Street and five metres on Dundee Road.
The motion split the chamber down the middle; however, committee convenor Tommy Stewart ruled in favour of the reduced yellow lines with the casting vote.
