American fried chicken giant Popeyes is set to come to Dundee, taking over the former Pizza Hut restaurant at Kingsway West Retail Park.
A building warrant application has been lodged for £350,000 worth of work to refit the existing unit into a Popeyes takeaway and restaurant.
Few details are given in the submission, but the plans indicate a full internal fit-out for the fast-growing chain.
It comes after it was revealed the Dundee Pizza Hut restaurant was one of six in Scotland set to close, following the collapse of the company operating the UK’s dine-in venues.
Last month, it emerged that 68 Pizza Hut restaurants across the UK will shut after DC London Pie, the franchisee behind the brand’s UK dine-in business, went into administration.
The restructuring will also see 11 delivery sites close, putting around 1,210 jobs at risk, although no Scottish delivery sites are affected.
In a pre-pack administration deal, Yum! Brands, the American hospitality giant that owns Pizza Hut globally, has bought back the UK restaurant operation, saving 64 locations that will continue trading.
Popeyes, which launched in the US in 1972 and is famous for its Louisiana-style fried chicken, has been rapidly expanding across the UK in recent years.
The chain already operates eight Scottish locations, including restaurants in Glasgow, East Kilbride, Aberdeen and Edinburgh.
